I have a firmly held belief that every business needs a blog. Big or small, one man band to multi-national corporation, get a web site and get a blog. You can find just so many benefits to blogs! I was even reading this morning about a small business where in fact the blogs ran in to the teens. One each for the key directors of the board, advertising team blog, offers and news blog and so on. OK, maybe this is a little more than I meant, but I would rather see this than no blog at all!
A weblog is just how that you communicate to your customers, suppliers, contacts etc on a regular basis. Individuals who maybe only buy occasionally or use your services once in a blue moon you may pop along to the blog to see what's going on among purchases.

You need to use this being an incentive to create purchases between their main buys. Display regular offers so that they have reasons to help keep finding its way back and once in a little while those offers will appeal and they will make an impulse purchase from you, just since they are reading your blog and you've mentioned a special offer which they cannot resist.
And a blog does not just assistance with customer retention, none customers could be directed to your blog from other sources that are themselves maybe mentioning your special deals inside their blogs, tweets and other media. If you may get your customers referring to you through your blog there is no means of telling how far the word can spread.
A weblog can also be a helpful resource for the search engines. Even the littlest of websites can quickly grow into a large website with the benefit of a blog. Just odd posts each week and per year later you can have a blog containing a huge selection of pages. Not merely is this seen by the search engines as evidence that your website is continually being updated, with content that also lasts (another favourable point), but this new and increasing level of content can then be cached by the search engines and may then begin to give you new readers as their search terms crop up in your blog.
True, not many of these people that find your blog through the search engines will turn into paying customers, but if some do and others then spread the message of your organization, then it's working as a marketing front for your business. For the investment of merely a small amount of time each week typing up what's going on and what has been happening, you might be creating a new source of marketing.
Lastly, if your organization is promoting its website through article writing, then it's really worth making use of your blog as a collection for all the completed articles. It provides a wealth of information that the search engines will like, whilst providing a source of information that your customers could benefit from.
